I remember right around the time that SF2:CE came out,a few local conveinence stores (mostly) and Arcades had this weird version of it that people started calling "Black Belt Edition" (I dunno if that was any sort of official name or a nickname, but places would but little paper signs on the markee saying "BlackBelt Edition"). Anyways,it was pretty much exactly the same as champion edition, except I remember that the colors were strange on the characters (like I think Ryu's 2nd Color was Purple). You could throw projectiles in the air and charactors with charge back moves like the psycho crusher or E.Honda's Head Butt thing, could keep doing them higher and higher. The weirdest and most recognizable thing was, that when Blanka did his Head bite thing, every other frame would be replaced by Ryu,in the same colors as blanka, doing the different steps of a Dragon Punch. And then, soon after, the famed "Rainbow Edition" came out, with all of it's crazyness. Now,I've looked on Different Street Fighter sites for a mention of BlackBelt, and I've looked hard for a ROM of this for Mame, but to no avail. (There was somthing similar, called "Red Wave",but it wasn't the same) Does anyone else remember this? or am I going Crazy? P.S. sorry if this has already been covered or is a totally dumb post. Actually,I think I remember seeing the "Black Belt Edition" one, too. I remember seeing fireballs being thrown in the air. Posted by Neo Rasa on 04:11:2001 02:56 AM: It's real, I used to own people with in it with Blanka. Posted by Crayfish on 04:11:2001 02:57 AM: Black belt. There is a whole thread about Rainbow Edition back on one of these forums. I never played Black Belt but I heard about it back in the day, it was one of a whole host of hacks to come out of Hong Kong. Rainbow is playable in Mame (you also need the roms for SF2 & SF2CE for it to work) but getting any roms now days is hard after they shut down MAME DK. Crayfish. Posted by Hentai on 04:11:2001 05:19 AM: was it blackbelt or rainbow that let you do air throws if you were just above the other player.. vega owned that game Posted by sonicboom2k1 on 04:11:2001 06:06 AM: ive seen that version before i had a rom for it but for the snes they did all that stuff u said before bout the fire balls in the air Posted by Afrodiziak on 04:11:2001 07:00 AM: What was it that had 3 fireballs coming at you in waves? I remember that one at a convenience store in the city next to mine. I remember you could also switch through the characters in the middle of the match by pushing the start button. Posted by sayiajin1 on 04:11:2001 07:23 AM: rainbow is available on callus or mame. ive heard of blackbelt but its not as hectic as rainbow. black belt is a little more toned down, sorta like playing sf2 on snes with game genie if any of you guys remember that. try www.emux.com for rainbow. although i think it does have blackbelt ive never got it to work. but who needs when youve got rainbow. also were you able to change characters in blackbelt like you could in rainbow. get the callus version. it runs alot smoother than mame. its the equivalent to running teenage mutant ninja turtles on mame and then on the dtmnt emulator which is alot faster. Posted by MULDER on 04:11:2001 07:27 AM: interesting.... Posted by chankalok on 04:11:2001 01:45 PM: is there any sf2t hack too? ? Posted by Diamond on 04:11:2001 03:51 PM: One night I wake up.. has mister rain cloud come over my bed? Why wet? Then I sniff piss... Posted by Neptune on 04:11:2001 05:08 PM: It Must have really been a wierd version if you played it in the 80's Considering Street Fighter 2 was released in 1991 Posted by Afrodiziak on 04:11:2001 05:28 PM: Where could a person get the arcade emulators? (Mame, etc.) Posted by Rugal. B on 04:11:2001 05:29 PM: I think i saw a version of sf2 for the snes called blackbelt edition at www.emusanet.com Posted by Hentai on 04:11:2001 05:50 PM: quote: Originally posted by IggyWhite OMG YOU PEPOLE IT WAS A HACK OF STREET FIGHTER 2 GENIUS! ACTING! thank you. Posted by jcasetnl on 04:12:2001 12:28 AM: It didn't come out in the 80's that's for sure. They were hacks of WW CE and HF. I played at least a dozen different versions with all sorts of mods. The "Blackbelt" and "Rainbow" editions are better remembered because whoever did the hacks actually took the time to modify the title screen. It was all about throwing ten sonic booms, switching to ken, spin kicking over the top and spin kicking from behind... ;-) They were a fun diversion. You can get mame from www.vintagegaming.com Posted by .Just*a*Kid. on 04:12:2001 08:40 PM: Who said 80's? I didn't. Thats just silly talk. All times are GMT. The time now is 12:43 AM.
